Principal's Message

Welcome to Baywood Elementary!

We’re excited to welcome you to a new school year at Baywood Elementary—home to over 300 amazing students from Transitional Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Nestled along the beautiful Central Coast, we proudly serve families from Los Osos and Morro Bay.

At Baywood, our commitment is to academic growth, social-emotional development, and celebrating the diverse cultures and backgrounds that make up our vibrant school community. Each child is known, supported, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.

We offer enriching academic opportunities, including Innovate lessons, integrated English Language Arts (ELA) and Spanish Language Arts (SLA) with science and history content, and schoolwide social-emotional learning through the Second Step curriculum.

Baywood is known for its strong community spirit. We value our partnerships with families and see parents and caregivers as essential collaborators in student success. Volunteers and community involvement are always welcome and deeply appreciated.

This year, we are excited to launch Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) schoolwide to create a more consistent, positive, and inclusive learning environment. Through PBIS, we will explicitly teach and reinforce our Baywood expectations of being responsible, considerate, safe, and studious across all areas of campus. These shared values guide our daily interactions and help every student feel supported and empowered to succeed.

Now in its sixth year, our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program continues to thrive. Launched in 2020, the program follows a 90/10 model—starting with 90% instruction in Spanish and 10% in English in TK and Kindergarten, gradually balancing to 50/50 by Fourth and Fifth Grade. We are proud to see our first cohort entering their final year in the program, reflecting the strength and promise of this bilingual journey.

We look forward to a joyful, connected, and inspiring school year together!

Warmly,
Kirstin May
